Bob and Denise Ryals

About our service as missionaries:

Denise and I are Assemblies of God Missionaries now living and working in Spain. We have been serving the Lord as missionaries since 1992.   It was our privilege to have lived and worked in Tirana, Albania for ten years.  Our focus during that period was to plant and develop a new church, theInternational Protestant Assembly Church in Tirana, with another missionary family.  During the last three years of this term of service, we served as Pastors of this wonderful congregation. The Lord did many powerful things during these special times. We are grateful to the Lord for all that he has done and to the many Albanian who work along side of us, and gave so much, to make this work a success. Truly, it was a blessed time in our lives and ministry.

In 2003 the Lord led us to Spain.  Since our coming to Spain, Denise and I serve as the coordinators of the Ministry Center of Spain (MCS) near Tarragona.   Our call and work is to facilitate programs to start and develop new Churches in conjunction with the Spanish Assemblies of God church through MCS.  The center has been supportive, provided resources and at times has played a vital role in the with the planting a number of new churches through the Spanish Assemblies of God.

One of the future, developing ministries that God has placed on our hearts is one that we have named "Gethsemane Ministry".  The name refers to a "turning point" in life and ministry where Jesus said, "nevertheless, not my will but yours be done".  In a sense you might say it is for those who are interested in making one of the final steps in complete surrender to the will of God and to those who just need to hear from God about what is next for them.  Our focus is on leaders who have the ability and the heart to shape the future of ministry in Europe.  The main tool of this ministry will be to return to some of the simplistic tools of ministry that were evident in Europe 1,500 years ago.  St. Patrick of Ireland gave us three principles in the 5th century that are our focus in the ministry:  Communion with God, building Community with each other and fulfillment of the Great Commission to turn our focus outward.   This was first envisioned after reading after reading "Celtic Evangelism" by George G. Hunter, III in late 2005.

I am very encouraged about this ministry. We have a website at: www.gethsemaneministry.com with a lot more information.  Dr. Marla Campbell, head of the InterCultural PhD program at Biola University, has been a key collaborator and co-developer of this concept of ministry.  What has developed to this point is based on much of her research, evaluations and wise counsel.   We have seen some amazing things, but I remain confident that the best is yet to come.

It is our privilege to be in a place where the Lord is moving among His people and allowing us an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people.
